Such like the great annual migration of wildlife in Tanzania, the Annual Migration of Wildebeest and Zebra in East Africa is one of nature’s biggest spectacles. By late July, the grasses are turning yellow in the western Serengeti and the herds continue north. After crossing Tanzania’s Grumeti River the zebra and wildebeest head to the Mara Triangle and Kenya’s Lamai Wedge. But they have to make another river crossing before they get to the lush plains of the Mara. Then it’s the Mara River this time and that too is filled with hungry crocodiles.

To stay to watch the migrating wildebeest tackle the Mara River, the best places include CC Africa’s Bataleur Camps and Kichwa Tembo, Sayari Mara Camp and the Mara Serena Safari Lodge.

The Mara plains are filled to the brim with large herds of ungulates in during September through November, and naturally followed by predators. Best places to stay while the migration is in the Mara include Mara Serena Safari Lodge and the Governors camps. There are plenty more places to stay inside the Masai Mara Reserve and just outside the Reserve (equally good for wildlife spotting).

The rains start in the south again by November/December and the herds begin their long trek back down to the Serengeti plains in Tanzania to have their young. The wildebeest migration is best viewed from either Klein?s Camp or Lobo Wildlife Lodge, during the short rains of November. Campsites in the Lobo area are best.
