Serengeti National Park
In Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park offers the classic absolute of African safari setting. For spotting lion kills, the grasslands make the Serengeti fantastic because the whole spectacle clearly that you can see. The millions of wildebeest migration and also zebra starts here. Than the Masai Mara in Kenya, it’s much larger and also less touristy.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
In Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Conservation area includes the largest crater in the world which for almost every species of wildlife, acts as a natural enclosure found in East Africa. Within the conservation area, the Maasai still live and it’s also home to Olduvai where have been found some of man’s earliest remains.
Kilimanjaro National Park
This is Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. Since it doesn’t require ropes or climbing experience, hiking to the summit of this majestic mountain is very popular, just good determination and planning. There’s also a crater lake, while most people visit the park to climb Kilimanjaro, and some nice hiking opportunities on the plateaus.
Ruaha National Park
In Southern Tanzania, Ruaha National Park is large, remote and full of wildlife. There are cheetah, lions, leopard, lots of kudu and you’d like to see almost every other African mammal. The park is here during the dry season that you get some spectacular game viewing and it’s home to the Great Ruaha River.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is often combined with a visit to the larger, better known Ngorongoro and Serengeti parks. But the river beds just teem with animals during the dry season, and it’s well worth a trip. To enjoy a walking safaris, Tarangire is a good place.
Lake Manyara National Park
Relatively, Lake Manyara is a small national park but it’s incredibly diverse. The park will often be combined with a visit to the Ngorongoro and Serengeti, and it’s on the “Northern Circuit”. Lake Manyara boasts plenty of? tree-climbing lions, elephants, leopards, and more than 400 species of birds including pink flamingos flocks.
Katavi National Park
To go on safari, Katavi National Park is one of the best places in Africa. Literally, it is teeming with wildlife, unfortunately the location is very few people visit, so remote. Located in the west of Tanzania, the park which is accessible by light aircraft, has just one camp. It would take about 5 days by road from Dar es Salaam.
Mahale Mountains National Park
With an estimated 1000 chimps in residence, Mahale is another chimpanzee sanctuary. There are other primates to see too, including the yellow baboons and red colobus. Mahale lies in the shores of Lake Tanganyika.
Selous Game Reserve
This is Africa’s largest reserve, a world heritage site, and not nearly as crowded as the Serengeti. You can see cheetahs, elephants, black rhinos and plenty of crocodiles and hippos. The Selous rivers, swamps and wetlands allow tourists by boat to enjoy their safari. Walking safaris in here are also popular.
Saadani National Park
This place is a nice mixture of beach and bush. Located on the Indian ocean facing the Zanzibar Island, Saadani is accessible by road from Dar es Salaam (about 4 hours) or charter flight. You can see lots of crocodiles, hippos and elephant. Walking safaris and Boat safaris are popular here. Best time to go is from June to August and January to February.
Arusha National Park
It is home to Mount Meru, Arusha National Park is Tanzania’s second highest mountain (after Kilimanjaro). Mount Meru either be used to acclimatize yourself before tackling Kili and it is a popular 4 day hike, or as a destination in itself. The rest of the National Park makes you may even spot a leopard and good for a beautiful outing.
Gombe Stream National Park
It is home to several groups of habituated chimpanzees. While it’s Tanzania’s smallest park, Gombe Stream National Park is certainly one of the most important. This place is where Jane Goodall studied chimpanzees and brought home to us how closely we are related, to our genetic cousins in all ways. Located in the far west of Tanzania, Gombe is not easy to get to.
Mikumi National Park
From Dar es Salaam, Mikumi National Park is very accessible and is therefore the most visited park by local Tanzanians. The place borders Selous and shares its abundant wildlife including giraffe, lions, eland, buffalos, and more.
Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Lies in southern Tanzania, Udzungwa Mountains National Park is famous for its incredible bio-diversity. If you like rainforests and bizarre plants with waterfalls, it is certainly worth a visit. Probably, you’ll not see a lot of big game here, but including rare birds and primates, the forests are full of small wildlife.
